Dr. Thota is internationally recognized innovation expert with over 20 years leadership experience in new product development, innovation management and executive leadership. He founded Innovation Business Development, Inc., in 2000 to assist clients in manufacture and sale of innovative products after his retirement as VP of Research, Development and Commercialization for Rich Products Corporation.
With experience in family owned rice fields in India, Dr. Thota learned early in life that value of harvest is dependent on the ecosystem within which product is harvested and marketed. He also learned that value extraction depended on how the producer positions herself within the value chain. Later in the USA, he applied his learnings to innovate and commercialize over 200 food products as a member of Rich Product’s leadership team. Dr. Thota has 10 US Patents.
Dr. Thota played a key role in transforming the Product Development and Management Association (PDMA) into a global organization during 2000-2007 serving as member of its Board, V P of Conferences, President and Chairman of the Board. He Chaired and Co-Chaired several prestigious PDMA international conferences on product development and innovation in China, India and the USA during 2001-2007. He successfully championed formation of PDMA-China in 2007 and PDMA-India in 2006. He is a member of the US National Innovation Initiative Strategy Council and contributes to US Council on Competitiveness dialogue on “innovation metrics” and “the future of U.S. manufacturing.” He also serves on the Advisory Council of the Creativity Connection, Americans for the Arts and Billion Minds Foundation.
Dr. Thota is active in several professional associations and serves on the Professional Development Panel of the American Association of Cereal Chemists, Food Safety and Health subcommittee of Georgia Food Pack, and as Counselor of the Marketing and Management Division of the Institute of Food Technologists.
He gives guest lectures on product development and innovation management at the University of Georgia and the Georgia Institute of Technology and is a Senior Fellow at the Kellogg Innovation Network, Northwestern University.
